How Reading 30 Minutes a Day Can Change Your Life
Warren Buffett reads 500 pages a day. Bill Gates reads 50 books a year. Elon Musk credits books with teaching him rocket science. But you don’t need to read that much to see results. Just 30 minutes a day is enough to transform your life.
The numbers
The average person reads about 200-250 words per minute. At 30 minutes a day, that’s roughly 7,000 words — about 25-30 pages. At that pace, you’ll finish a typical 250-page book in about 8-10 days. That’s 3-4 books per month, or roughly 40 books per year.
Over 5 years, that’s 200 books. Over a decade, 400. Most people don’t read 400 books in their entire lifetime. Imagine how much further ahead you’d be.
When to read
The best time is whenever you can be consistent. Some options: first thing in the morning before the world gets noisy, during your lunch break, on your commute (if you’re a passenger), or before bed instead of scrolling your phone.
What to read
Mix it up. Self-help books give you practical strategies. Biographies show you how successful people think. Business books teach you how money works. Even fiction builds empathy and creativity. The key is to read actively — highlight passages, take notes, and think about how to apply what you learn.
